Create

Welcome to
Clayton Bradley Academy
Science Lab

This blog is devoted to the science lab at Clayton Bradley Academy (CBA). Through this blog, you will be introduced to the many things that are going in and around the CBA science lab. There will be periodic updates that will highlight different activities, students, and programs that support Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and our Lifelong Guidelines and Lifeskills. This year we have three classes being taught in the lab Biology 1 to our 9th graders, Chemistry to our 10th graders, and a new elective Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy.

Our focus theme for this year is "Create." Create means to cause to happen; bring about; arrange, as by intention or design. When we create in science we are causing a reaction to take place, bring about a new understanding of the world, and/or generating a new idea about how the world works. We do this through intentional learning. Learning does not just happen through osmosis, it takes place on purpose; with intent. We believe that when we do science it is an action!

The lab equipment at CBA may look very similar to equipment you have seen in a lab before, but the instructional method may look quite different.  We believe in Project/Problem Based Learning (PBL) as a means to teach that will engage minds and inspire students to go further in their learning. When you visit, you may see a number of activities happening at the same time. You may see models being constructed, whiteboards collaborated on, experiments being performed, or even student presentations being delivered. What you won't see on average is teacher lecture! Our goal is for all students to create their own understanding of how the world works. For this to take place, students must do science!

Take a minute to see the pictures of activities that are happening in the lab this week. Click on one of the class links to the right to see what is happening in each class.  Enjoy and come visit any time!
